Transforming Talk

Walk and talk

Walk and talk therapy near Exeter

Some people find it easier to talk when they’re moving. Walk and talk therapy takes our sessions outdoors, on quiet public footpaths around Aylesbeare, a village just east of Exeter.

1

Along the stream

We set off on a quiet footpath that follows a small stream.
2

Up across farmland

A gentle uphill over open fields, with views opening up over Exeter.
3

A rest at the top

A bench at the highest point, where we can sit for a while.
4

Gently back down

An easy downhill walk back to where we started, partly along a quiet single-track lane.

Is it right for you?

Walk and talk can suit anyone. It depends on what you feel comfortable with. If you find it hard to sit still and think things through, walking side by side can take the pressure off having to find the right words. If you prefer a focused, structured conversation, you may find the outdoors more distracting, and that’s fine. We can talk it through and decide together.

Before and during our walks

How it starts

We don’t begin with a walk. We have a couple of online sessions first, to get to know each other and talk about how walk and talk will work for you.

Confidentiality outdoors

The paths are quiet, and meeting other people is rare. If someone does pass, we simply pause or lower our voices until they’ve gone. Before our first walk, we agree how we’d handle meeting someone either of us knows.

Weather

We decide together. Some people are happy to walk in any weather with the right clothing, and others prefer to switch to online when it looks grim. If the Met Office issues an amber or red weather warning, the session moves online.
